Plot:

     Laurent Roll likes eating dessert very much. He likes eat dessert at Candycrush shop. Belinda Raman is his girlfriend. She is a famous singer so she needs to keep slim. For this reason, she does not tolerate his boyfriend always eating dessert because dessert makes her boyfriend become much fatter. Over time, Roll becomes a fat totally. Roman breaks up with him because he looks ugly. After Roman leaves him, he becomes so depressed and constantly eating dessert. Finally, he gets the obesity. Fortunately, he meets with a girl named Maggie Collions. In his trough, she accompanies with him and helps him lose weight. With the help of Collions, he cheer up. Gradually, they fall in love with each other. Also, Candycrush shop has developed a new dessert that will not make people fat. For this reason, Roll does not get fat again. One day, Candycrush hold a strawberry music festival and invited famous singer Belinda Raman to sing songs. Laurent Roll is selected as a lucky audience to sing song with Raman. When Raman finds his ex-boyfriend is so handsome and she wants her boyfriend back. When Laurent Roll sees Raman again, he does not have any feeling to her. After the strawberry music festival, Raman wants to reconcile with Roll. However, the response of Roll is indifferent. Raman wants to break the relationship with Collion and Roll. She takes action. On the one hand, she writes love blog every day. In love blog, she records the details of their love and uploads many sweet photos. On the other hand, she creates a private chat with Collion. Raman makes up a lie to Collions that she is pregnant. Collions believes her words and she is so sad. She decides to leave Roll. She leaves a message that she will never disturb his life. After roll know Collisons leaves him, he is very sad. He hates Raman uses this way to make him back. In addition, in his heart, Collisons is the most important woman for him. She accompanies with him go through the toughest time. She encourages him to cheer up and does everything for him. Roman realizes that he cannot live without her. He uses the power of Twitter. Roll wants her back and focus the attention on her news. However, Roll loses her information for two weekends. One day, Candycrush shop holds a Candycrush game competition. Roll knows Candycrush is her favorite game. Perhaps it is an opportunity to see her. On the day of game, he gets the first prize. When he is asked about who is the person he wants to share his pleasure. He answers he wants to share with Collisons, his girlfriend. Actually, Collisons sees his competition all the time and she is moved. She decides to forgive him. Going through many misunderstandings, they finally work it out.

“Candycrush” is a dessert shop in New York. It provides customers with all kinds of delicious desserts, and some of them are low fat desserts especially made for fat customers. The company not only offers dessert, but also organizes various activities, such as strawberry music festival and birthday parties for its fans and special customers.

Cara acts as a male character Laurent Roll. He used to be extremely fat by falling in love with strawberry cakes in Candycrush. After his ex-girlfriend, Belinda Raman, leaves him for no reason, he becomes sad and always visiting Candycrush to find memory with Belinda. Once, he meets a girl, Maggie Collions at Candycrush, he falls in love with her. With the help of Maggie, he loses weight.

Because of Belinda’s returning, he loses Maggie by accident and refuses Belinda’s love all the time. Eventually, he becomes a stuff at Candycrush and he is together with Maggie again.

Carol acts as Laurent Roll’s ex-girlfriend Belinda Raman. She is a popular singer who very cares about reputation and don’t enjoy having dessert. So she breaks up with Laurent because of his appearance and their different interests. But she still loves him so when she figures out that Laurent turns to be thin, she decides to continue their original relation. She uses many plots to separate Laurent and Maggie, showing her love to Laurent, arguing with Maggie, but at the end, she gets nothing and leaves again.

Spencer acts as Maggie Collions, Laurent’s girlfriend. She is a beautiful and patient girl who also loves cakes at Candycrush. She meets Laurent for many times at Candycrush and falls in love with Laurent when she helps him to get weight. She made lots of amazing presents for her boyfriend, but she cannot forgive Laurent when she thinks he still has affair with Belinda. So she disappears for a while until she sees Laurent’s single-minded concern for her. At the end of the story, she forgives Laurent at Candycrush.  

Answer individual question

1: What surprised me most is our plot always changes beyond expectation. In the process of creating our story, the plot actually is constantly change. Originally, we want to use “obesity” as the main theme, because obesity is a big issue that most people are concerned about. However, we find it is a little difficult to attract people’s attention after a few days. Then, we start to use create a love story because most people likes love story. We still use “obesity” as one element in the story. When we continue our story, the hot hashtag is always used by our group in order to attract more people’s attention. The way we adapt our narrative is always based on audience’s attention.

2: What makes me proud is we combine hot hashtag #strawberrymusicfestival  into our plot perfectly. More importantly, this hashtag makes our story get high attention by other people. We create a character is a singer. She needs to sing at Strawberry Music Festival and then she meet with her ex-boyfriend. I think using hashtag perfectly into our story makes me very proud of our story because more and more people start to read our twitter narrative story.

   3:   I think audio is the most useful in our story. We have a plot that happens in music strawberry festival. It is impossible for us to really create a music festival. Therefore, in order to make followers convince, we create an audio. We play different characters and sing a song in audio. After we finish our audio, there are many people like it. For this reason, I think this form of media is the most useful media in our story.

    4: I enjoy the blog most. There is a plot that female character needs to write love blogs in order to make his ex-boyfriend back. For me, writing love letters is very interesting and attractive. When I write love letters, I can think a lot. For example, I will think in what way I should write to change ex-boyfriend’ view. Or should I write some sweetie or some impressive memories? It is really interesting.

5: I think infographic is the least useful media for our story. We almost do not use this media. Infographic really is a convenient way to show information more vividly. However, I think our story is very clear and dialogue is more directly. Therefore, infographic is the least useful for our group.

6: I think vlog is the least enjoyable media for me. Before we take a vlog, we need to do a lot of preparation, like writing draft, revising draft and spending time to take vlog. In order to make a vlog, we need to spend the whole day. In addition, vlog is a funny video that used to comment other funny videos. Accordingly, there is no direct relationship to our story. Therefore, I think vlog is the least enjoyable.

7: I would make our plot a little different. I think use “love” and “obesity” is a little monotonous. If I have opportunity, I will add more elements like revenge, suspense. Based on love story, just make the relationship more complex and create some strange things, which will attract more people’s attention.

8: I want to share my own experience to you. In this twitter narrative, I know how to use different social media to make our story more interesting and attractive. To be honest, I have never tried such thing before. Originally, I think it is very hard to create a story that used social media. Gradually, I realize the power of social media and I will use these things to make our life more wonderful.

Using vlog in our narratvie

Our twitter story narratives a man who belongs to the group of obesity’s love story. There is no doubt that “obesity” is really a big issue for most Americans. People who suffer from obesity will easily become sensitive and do not trust other people. We can use vlog to show obesity’s troubles and how they are suffering unfair treatments in daily life. It is good way to call on other people to care about obesity people. They actually are same with other normal people.

 In vlog, we can express our meaning in a humorous way, because audiences are more likely to see some funny videos. We can edit voice more interesting to attract more people’s attention but also added to our own concern at the end.

Self-assessment

In the last week, Tina, Hedia, Cara and I formed into one group to finish a “group-problem solving presentation”.  In the process of preparing this presentation, our group members combine our ideas together and put a lot of efforts into this presentation. We discussed with problems and solve conflicts together, finishing our group presentation at our best.

A leader, who is responsible for the whole teamwork, is essential in a group.  A lead should have a good communication skill that used to contribute and evaluate ideas and clarify difficult problems. Leadership role plays a positive role which solves different conflicts and makes the team forward.  We selected Cara as our group’s leader, because she is good at communicating with other people and have the strong capability to organize the group. Cara is really a good leader. She respected every group members’ suggestions and encouraged members to participate together. When we started to decide our topic, everyone come up with their ideas. Hedia was a less active member in our group, so she seldom discussed. Cara as a leader, also was a regulate participator. She always asked Hedia’s opinion actively and made her involve in our discussion. Cara also held the meeting regularly and summarized the results of our discussion in order for us better understanding. Under her leadership, our group becomes an effective group and completed assignments quickly.

Although leadership role is very important, whether a team’s performance is good or not is based on individual’s participation. Therefore, membership role is significant in a group. There are four teamwork skills for an effective group, respectively are openness, action orientation, supportiveness and personal style. Our group members mainly conform to these requirements. For instance, when we meet with different opinions, we were willing to accept these ideas and discussed together. Our group members will never refuse other people’s suggestions or even insult others. It reflects the “openness” of teamwork skill. There was a time that I was very nervous about my presentation and I felt very discouraged. Other group members stopped their own tasks. They comforted me and encouraged me that our team would be the best. It reflected the “supportiveness” of teamwork skill. I remembered there were many unsolved problems occurred during discussion, we chose the “brainstorming” way to develop creative solutions to solve problems. It reflected the “Action Orientation” of teamwork skill. Therefore, we had active personal style and solved different problems by our collective efforts.

After this group problem-solving presentation, I have a better understanding of leadership role and membership role. This experience is really a meaningful lesson for me. I know the importance of the union of a group. Also, I have the ability to play an eligible role as a member in a group.  This experience makes me learn a lot of teamwork skills, which will be useful for my further corporation with other people.

Question：How can you use different kinds of media to create a layered narrative in your Twitter narrative?

At first, we use internet as a tool to share our story to audience. Professor asks us use twitter this social media to attract more people’s attention. Obesity is most American’s concerns, so we want to use these terms to cause public’s worry. 

I think at the start of our story, we can add some obesity’ pictures to gain people’s attention. Although I think add audio is effective, our voice is not good enough. If we can select other voice to warn people, I think it will useful. As for some complex plot, using infographic is an interesting way to show ideas. Most people will read our story more easily and feel much attractive.

Response to Podcast "Freakonomics: "Twitter is a 2 Way Street"

According to this podcast, it comes up a question: Is Twitter a Two-Way Street? This question means if you want more followers, do you have to follow more followers? Duncan Watts reveals a very interesting phenomenon that people who have top followers also follow a lot of people like Lady gaga, Britney Spears. Many people do not characterize Twitter as a social network, but we have to admit that it really exist reciprocity in a sense.

However, if these famous people do not follower many people, they will also have top followers because people focus attention on them. We are interested in their life and want to know more information about them. Therefore, there is no doubt that we can follow more people as a way to get more followers. More importantly, we need to have a good management on our twitter and provide interesting content to attract more people. I think that’s the most necessary thing that we need to do.

This section introduces the famous people in Cixi. However, I find Yang Xianjiang is not in the list. Yang Xianjiang is a famous educationalist who born in Cixi. He did a lot of contribution on education field and donated many schools in Cixi. I think it is necessary to add his name to the list.

What’s useful:

I like the basic layout is very clearly and appropriate tone, words and images combined with perfectly

What’s not useful:

Much statistics analyze is too burdensome. I need to delete some information.

How does this model accommodate the content:

 At the beginning of this infographic, there is a woman’s picture, I can add elements as what a woman in workplace looks like. In the analysis of statistic part, I can show the statistic that women are suffering unfair situation in workplace. Finally, some useful suggestions given to women in workplace can be added to the final infographic part.

      About the ways that Twitter bots be used in your story 

I think conflict is a significant element in the story. Every story narrative needs conflict so that people will have more interest to see this story. Our group is creating a company on dessert named “Candy Crush”. Dessert shop will easily be associated with first love and beautiful thing. There should be lovers becoming protagonist in our story. Originally, they fall in love with each other because of meeting in “Candy Crush”. Gradually, they have conflict with each other. The boy wants to make girl happy by giving ice-cream from “Candy Crush”. There should be a lot of conflicts between them in order to get more people’s attention. The main clue runs through the whole story is always “Candy Crush”. The advantage of Twitter bot is automatic. For this reason, the conversations between them will be published quickly and the plot will develop quickly.

As for other ways to use twitter bot’ conflict, first, we need to follow some famous people who have a lot of followers. Twitter bot needs to leave comments on the famous people regularly, like “I know a very delicious dessert “candy crush”, here is the link share.” In addition, it is necessary to follow some desserts expert. Act like a consumer that introduces great desserts shop for people. As for some key terms, like #delicious# #dessert# #candy#, Twitter bot also should make good use of these terms to attract people’s attention.

Response to Infographic Thinking Workshop

With the development of the society and technology, infographic has become a new way to deliver information effectively. According to the article, Infographic Thinking Workshop, I have a better understanding of infographic. “Infographics have become the key to changing culture and conventions as far as information consumption”. Compared with traditional ways, infographic can transfer complex information into vivid picture, which makes readers easy to understand. Therefore, it is quite necessary to hold Infographic workshop.

As for me, I want to join in infographic workshop. I think it needs certain skills to create a great infographic. It is not easy to summarize the content not leave out important points. Learn to summary is the essential thing to do. Simple picture does not mean anything. Under the principle of obeying author’s meaning, we also need to clarify ideas by showing infographic vividly. Readers also should have a different feeling towards reading an infographic compared with reading an essay. That should the direction where we should put our effort in. In addition, it is significant to draw people’s attention and interact with readers in a simple way. These skills should be learned in a infographic workshop.

Reasons why this is a good TEDTalk

Sheryl Sandberg gives this lecture to the women who work in the workforce. She uses her personal experience and other people’s experience to show the phenomenon that women’s low statue in the workforce. Unlike other feminists complain about the social discrimination towards women, speaker emphasizes on the mental angle. She thinks women can get promotion by change their own views. This speech plays a role on inspiring women to fight for them, so it is a good Tedtalk. 

Reasons why it is a good subject to turn into an infographic

First of all, this subject has certain audience and has a very clear theme towards women statue in workforce. Then, the speaker also says some real statistics to support her ideas. The statistics can easily show in the infographic visually. It is significant to make an infographic to show speaker’s idea vividly. In the meantime, it is necessary not to leave out important points in the content.

Response to Practical Typography written by Butterick

     After I read the book Practical Typography written by Butterick, I have a basic understanding of typography which is quite useful in my life. What is typography? From the text, it answers that “is the visual component of the written words.” The ability to produce good typography depends on how well you understand the goals of your text no matter it is ugly. Good typography makes text more effective. The author gives examples of high way sign. The typography should catch people’s eyes. Speed limit and number are both important, so it uses the same obvious font.

      The book also tells that the gift of typography is from reader’s attention. People are rational for they will not always focus on what they have to concern. How to get people’s attention? The author illustrates an example on two different resumes. How to pick up one resume without reading its content? It depends on typography. It is undoubtedly that noticeable typography will gains more attention.

     I think have a good typography is a premise of good project, because people are more likely to focus the attention the overall impression at the first sight. This book is really interesting and useful for me.

After I saw the ted video delivered by Andrew Atanton, this video mainly talk about how to lead to a great story. His words is persuasive and impressive. In the process of his telling, he also gives some examples that used some film series he directed to support his ideas. Finally, he gives the answer on how to get a great story that is “ capturing a truth from your experiencing it, expressing values you personally feel and deep down your core”.

 I also see the infographic about this lecture. There is no doubt that infograph way and video lecture is different. Infographic summary the main ideas of this lecture and list the four steps about the process of how to lead to a great story and also matched with an illustration. This illustration shows a gradual process of how to lead to a great story vividly. Infograph emphasis on the main idea and use the picture to show the statistics or number clearly. In contrast, the lecture contains the whole content and more likely to involve more information. 

 As for me, I prefer to the way of taking a lecture, because I think the power of language is conclusive. I enjoy the speaker to use his own way, his own expression to tell us what he think. It is quite interesting and attractive. I think the video lecture is a dynamic way for me to receive information whereas the infographic is a static way for me to get the information.

            c. There is a trend towards studying abroad and the major reasons for American students choose to study abroad.

Conclusion: The number of America students who choose to study abroad is increasing.

2) Provide the Rhetorical Situation of this essay

Purpose: The purpose of this essay is to show a currently phenomenon that more and more American students choose to study abroad.

Audience: The audience is American high school students

Stance: the author hold a neutral attitude shows a phenomenon about American students.

Genre: Expository Essay

Media/design: Text, graphs, pictures. The composing is clear and the whole image is very comfortable. The main color tone is appropriate.

3) While you are only outlining the essay--not writing it word-for-word--you can still get a feeling for what this essay would look like. How is the infographic different from the traditional essay you outlined?

This essay uses infographic way to show what the author wants to say clearly. I can know the basic information after seeing infographic. Therefore, if I need to outline this essay, I just need to show some number or statistics which concretely express author ideas. In contrast, traditional essay sometimes have other extra words. When we are outlining an essay, we have to mention these words. Sometimes it is unnecessary.

4) Strengths and weaknesses of the infographic: what does the infographic do better than the essay? What does the essay do better than the infographic?

Strengths: The infographic uses pictures, graphs and other ways to support author’s perspective. There is no doubt that it is an effective way for us to understand information quickly. In this essay, we can quite know the top 10 countries for American students choose to study abroad and easily discover the percent of sex. Readers just need to spend less time to acquire knowledge.

 Weaknesses: The traditional essay is more specific than infographic essay. The traditional essay has more details which infographic cannot express. As for an academic essay, there is no wonder that traditional essay is more serious and more persuasive for readers.

5) How does this qualify as an essay and not a series of pictures?

A series of pictures do not mean anything. An essay shows a theme and gives a clear method. This essay gives a good introduction of abroad phenomenon for American students. In terms of counties, field, sex distribution, the author takes a very comprehensive explanation of study abroad situations. For this reason, this is an essay not a series picture.

This author uses infographic way to help us understand what he wants to say. There is no doubt that using infographic makes the whole article more visual, more vivid. At the first page, I can clearly know that this article wants to express the theme of music by a picture. For instance, about the discovery channels, author uses the tree diagram to show the data. I have to admit that this way is very easy for me to understand the data explicitly. Although this article is written on the platform of Web 1.0, the basic characteristic of Web1.0 is “static” not “dynamic” or “instantly dynamic”. However, I think it is clear enough to show the main content.

 Nowadays, there is no need for us to buy CD in the shop. We have already owned more options. Listening music online undoubtedly becomes a hot choice for many people. Actually, this way really saves our time and money. However, it also increase the distance with music. Not only is music, but also many other things. With the development of technology, we are more accustomed to chatting with friends online rather than talk  face-to-face. We prefer to shop on the internet instead of buying things with parents on the street. The speed of technology develops more quickly, gradually we seems lose something. No matter the time has entered into the time of “Social 3.0”, or following “Web 4.0, Web 5.0”, we really need to attach great importance on people and people.

There are many social networking websites have such function: Search. In terms of locations, sex, and characteristic, people are more likely to create a relationship with other people. “the data miner” offers some statistics to help people finish their profile perfectly. Better profile will gain more attention from other people. There is no wonder that “data miner” gives several tips to help us finish a perfect profile picture. For instance, making contact with your camera is a significant way to enhance your attractiveness. And, it is pretty interesting to compare some data collection to analyze the target audience which belongs to us. I have to admit that it is easier for us to find out more friends and become more related to social contact. However, there exist some problems. As shown in the chart, there are some hot key words which are ranked by some attractiveness people, like skiing, yoga. These words also present some popular trends. Nevertheless, I think it will be a little misunderstanding for some people who are eagerly to be concerned. In order to make more friends, people marked their tags like surfing, skiing or live in London. Actually, they do not like these sports but to attract more people’s attention. It is useless and a kind of mislead other people who really want to make friends.

Punk music is not like other music, which is gentle and melodious. The rhythm of punk music is very fast and voice is very loud. People worn holes clothes and dance crazily to express their strong feeling. Although it was not accepted by many people, punk music became mainstream music at that period. Mixed with both admirations and controversies, punk music showed its unique style. People played punk music, seemed like to say “rebel, rebel, rebel.” The way they performed and loud roar expressed their unsatisfactory to this society. I think this spirit of resistance is a powerful strength to push the improvement of society. Actually, people need this spirit. Currently, the speed of technology develops very fast. In just five years, the function of Web2.0 is so useful and broad. The rapid development of technology really brings us a lot of convenience. We also need to think: what makes Web2.0 develops so quickly? I think increasing demands from people motivate the development of Web 2.0. Just like the punk music spirit, only dissatisfactory could push the progress of society. As Mr. Martin said, “If early punk led to a dead end, he suggests, the answer is clear: more experimentation.” The appearance of punk music represents that the diversity of human development. Also, the innovation of Web2.0 gives more opportunities to human.

When we are still enjoying the convenience that Web 2.0 brings to us, the next big thing is coming. It is Social 3.0. This article mainly gives an introduction of Social3.0. At the beginning of the article, the author illustrates with an example of websites sites. Different people can complete an assignment simultaneously no matter where they are. Compared with Web 2.0, Social 3.0 improves collaboration ability to be synchronous and real-time. Social 3.0 is regarded as “synchronous collaboration”. In the meantime, author also realizes that reader will have a misunderstanding on Web 3.0 and social 3.0. For this reason, author emphasis that Social 3.0 is different from Web 3.0. From my perspective, the innovation of technology undoubtedly brings a lot of convenience, especially for students. Students and teachers will get more communication and interaction with each other. Teacher can use this as a platform, so students are able to share their views at the same time on computers or mobile phones. You are not only relies on your own wisdom, other people will also help you.
